Paris is the most photographed city on earth, which means its iconic shots are also its most crowded and most replicated. The Trocadéro angle on the Eiffel Tower, the Sacré-Cœur steps at sunset, the Shakespeare & Company bookshop facade — beautiful, yes, but your Instagram already has them from fifty people you follow.

These 15 spots are different. Some require a 10-minute detour from a tourist circuit. Some require a specific season. A few require patience and the willingness to show up early. All of them produce photographs that look like yours and nobody else's.

Before you go
  • Golden hour in Paris: roughly 7am and 8–9pm in summer; 8am and 5pm in winter
  • Most hidden spots are busiest on weekends — go Tuesday through Thursday
  • A tripod is officially prohibited in some public spaces, but a mini GorillaPod is fine
  • Paris Museum Pass (€55, 2 days) covers several of the sites below

How to Use These Spots

Don't try to hit all 15 in one trip. Group them by arrondissement and walk between them — the best Paris photography often happens in the streets between destinations, not at the spots themselves. Pick 4–5 per day and allow time to stay if the light is working.

The golden rule: arrive first, then decide. If a spot is already crowded by the time you get there, come back at dusk. Paris empties from 7pm in winter and 9pm in summer. The city at those edges of light is the city at its most extraordinary.
